Episode Three:Amor

Last time on Look Me In The Eyechips, Ofelia and Lenore were treated to a very uncomfortable dinner with their new sponsor...

Ofelia: Uuuuugggghhh!! I am so stupid! Who cares if she’s a fast dresser? I just called attention to her changing her clothes in the living room!

Lenore: Yep. Sure did. I guess maybe next time *you* should be careful not to embarrass *me.*

Mercy: Hello.
Ofelia: Oh! Hello. Um, we were just leaving.
Mercy: Oh, no. You should stay. You’re the new girls, right? The musicians?

Lenore: Yes, we are. You must be --
Mercy: I’m Mercy. I’m Lady Carmilla and Lord Marius’s daughter.

Julia: There you are, Mercy! I took your water to your room, but you weren’t there.
Mercy: I heard voices. You can go now.

Julia: Okay. Where would you like me to wait?
Mercy: AWAY! I’ll go back to my room when I’m done here. Wait for me there.
Julia: Okay. Fine. I’ll see you back in your room.

Julia: Hmm…I hate when she does this! I’m always afraid Carmilla’s right around the corner.

Oryx: Hey babe.

Julia: You shouldn’t sneak up on me like that!
Oryx: Aw, you know you love it. Better me than spooky bosslady. Should’ve seen how she freaked out my cousins at dinner.

Julia: I just met them. Well, kind of. Mercy scooted me out of the room. Who knows what she’s doing.
Oryx: What is the deal with that kid, anyway?

Julia: I wish you’d stop asking me! You know I can’t talk about Mercy.
Oryx: Calm down. I meant the attitude, not the disease. I know the arrangement on that. No speakie.

Julia: Oh, I’m sorry. Yeah, she has an attitude. Just from being lonely and spoiled, I guess.
Oryx: Speaking of lonely…

Julia: I’ll see you tonight. She’s like a log after 9 pm.
Oryx: I will look forward to it.

Oryx: esta noche, mi querido.

Episode Two: Lady Carmilla

In the last chapter we met Ofelia and Lenore, who have been forced by circumstance to move in with their cousin Oryx at a creepy mansion where the lady of the house pays artists to live and work at their trade.

Lenny: Dressing for dinner? Really? This place is weird.

Ofelia: It’s just a little more formal than what we’re used to. Remember in Paris? We had to dress for dinner every night at that hotel with the dress code. The concierge made faces at me if I even walked through the lobby in jeans on my way out the door!

Lenny: Oh, you mean that one time you wore jeans in your whole life? I know you have a suitcase full of “dinner clothes” over there, but I am not wearing one of those dowdy performance dresses.
Ofelia: Oh, then don’t! Here, let me help you. Just this once, try not to embarrass me.

Oryx: Well, ladies, suit up! Before we head to the dining room, Carmilla wants to meet you in the parlor. She likes to meet new artists personally, and this is the only time she’s had today.
Ofelia: Okay. That’s fine.
Lenore: What’s she like?

Oryx: Well, um, she’s rather formal. She’s the one who insists on dressing for dinner, it’s kind of retro. And she and I play this game with introductions. I introduce her as Lady Carmilla, so you know what to call her if she doesn’t like you. If she does like you, she’ll tell you to call her Carmilla.

Ofelia: Hmm… What if she doesn’t? Oryx, if she doesn’t like us, will she ask us to leave?
Oryx: Oh, nonsense! She didn’t ask you to come here because she thought she’d like you. You’re artists! She loves funding art. She loves when the people she helped make it big. Meet me in the parlor. Everything will be fine.

***Later, in the parlor***

Carmilla: Come in ladies, have a seat! Help yourselves to some tea.

Oryx: Lady Carmilla, please meet my cousins Ofelia and Lenore. Girls, this is Lady Carmilla.
Carmilla: Thank you, Oryx. We will see you at dinner.

Carmilla: It certainly is lovely to finally meet the two of you. Oryx has told me so much about you. Please tell me, which is the pianist?
Ofelia: I am, Ma’am – I mean Lady Carmilla. My sister, Lenore, she plays the cello.

Carmilla: And I understand you began producing your own duets at fourteen?
Lenore: Yes, and touring at fifteen.
Carmilla: How old are you now?
Ofelia: I’m 22 and Lenore is 21.
Carmilla: Oh, wonderful. Just starting into adulthood.

Carmilla: I suppose we shouldn’t leave the others waiting. After you, please.
Ofelia: Certainly.

Carmilla: Greetings. You may all take your seats, Mercy won’t be joining us tonight.
Ofelia: Huh?
Lenore: Oh, please keep your mouth shut…

Ofelia: You…you followed us straight in here! How did you change clothes?

Carmilla: Excuse me?

Episode One: Everything Changes

Lenny: I guess this is the place.
Ofelia: Hmm. It looks…spacious.
Lenny: It looks creepy.
Ofelia: Creepy or not, we have no where else to go.

Silas: Ladies, I’m glad you made it safely, as you know, we’ve been expecting you. I am Silas, and I’m pleased to greet you.
Ofelia: I am Ofelia, this is my sister Lenore. We do appreciate your hospitality.

Silas: Think not of it. It is, however, my stepmother, Lady Carmilla to whom you owe your gratitude. Not that I wouldn’t invite you! No, just that this is her home.
Ofelia: Well, then we will thank you both.

Silas: I’m sure it will be a pleasure to have you around. This is our maidservant, Door, and she will see your bags to your room.
Ofelia: Thank you very much, Door.
Silas: She can hear you, but she is mute, so please don’t think her rude.

Silas: I hear your cousin coming, please excuse me, she has asked to give you the tour. Have a lovely afternoon.
Ofelia: He’s so very polite!
Lenny: Mmm…I wonder what you’re like without that stuffy attitude…and stuffy shirt…and stuffy pants…

Oryx: Ofelia! Lenny! It’s been so long!
Ofelia: Too long.

Oryx: I know! It’s just awful what happened, it really is. First losing Uncle Rhett and Aunt Katie, you know how much I loved your parents. But this contractor theft on top of it!
Ofelia: Well, we definitely can’t thank you and Silas and Lady Carmilla quite enough.
Lenny: Yeah, we’d be kind of…lost right now. Without you.

Oryx: Well think nothing of it! You’re landing on your feet here, I assure you. And just look at you! Looking so good. Look at the…black hair…on both of you.
Lenny: Well, it is a family trademark!

Oryx: Yes, yes. I’d quite forgotten about that. You know what? Hang on here for just a second.

...

Oryx: Well, let’s start that tour!
Ofelia: Oh my!
Lenny: *snicker* Lead the way, cousin!
